Hello from the glorious morning skies of Maine! My camera was unable to capture the intense color of the sky, but this at least gives you an idea of the beautiful sunrise we are having today.  Maine has not had the torrential rain that most of Philly has experienced of late and we are grateful!  I suspect, however, that we will experience an abundance of snow in a few months that may or may not affect Philly and for a much longer period.  When Philly is experiencing warmer weather in April, we have heard that rarely do we not have snow on Mother's Day.  Yikes!

I mentioned Brunswick yesterday when talking about "Blessings", but I really wanted to give a better overview of the town because it is a really fun place to visit.  Brunswick is the home of Bowdoin College, giving the town a vibrant, interesting and a bit more fast pace feel than other towns in Maine.  Known as the gateway to Maine’s magnificent mid-coast region, Brunswick is situated along the eastern coast and approximately 10 miles north of Freeport (home of LL Bean and outlet shopping).  Brunswick offers plenty of great restaurants (ranging from Italian to Indian and everything in between!), record and CD stores, two movie theaters, art galleries, golf courses, bowling alleys and more. If that is not enough, some folk even tout that the Civil War began and ended right there in Brunswick.

Brunswick is not only home to Bowdoin College, but also to  the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum, The Theater Project, and the Maine State Music Theatre. It was home to Naval Air Station Brunswick which permanently closed on May 31, 2011.

I would be remiss not to mention Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of  "Uncle Tom's Cabin".  Stowe wrote the book after having a vision of the story during church while living in Brunswick during the time her husband was a professor at Bowdoin.  The book so inflamed anti-slavery passions that when President Lincoln met Stowe, he reportedly called her the "little woman" who started the war.

There is so much history, I could write an entire blog just on Brunswick alone!  This month Brunswick is hosting an art show and restaurant tour, two events we are anxious to attend.  Stay tuned!
