Happy Wednesday!

As I sit to type this message, I realize I have totally forgotten with Monday being a holiday that I am suppose to be doing Wednesday Fun Facts!  Blair and I had traveled to Brunswick last weekend and visited an amazing store called "Blessings", which was going to be my topic for today.  So, while I will I am going to continue with that message, I will try to include some information on family owned businesses in Maine as well!

As you might guess, the name "Blessings" immediately attracted both of us as it is a commonly used term within the Christian Community.  Situated almost on an island within Brunswick, "Blessings"' gorgeous window boxes of blooming flowers made us think it was a florist shop!  My family, being a 3rd generation of florists, along with the name of "Blessings", of course drew us both like bees to honey to this lovely store.

Immediately upon entering, we found ourselves immersed in vintage, antique and artistically re-created furniture that was loving decorated with pieces of art, silver, seashells, beads, china and more.   The owners (Diane & DominicVella), artistic talent showed through in every nook and cranny of this lovely, family owned business.  Diane was wonderfully friendly, fun and unlike so many artists who are afraid of sharing their secrets, Diane was an amazing source of information on how to do projects like painting kitchen cabinets, fireplaces and just about anything else.  Even if you won't be visiting Maine in the near future, you can shop at "Blessings" via Esty.com on line then searching for BlessingsinBrunswick or feel free to call Diane at 207.725.5703.

"Blessings" is just one example of the several family businesses we have found while touring around in Maine.  Their story is one that we hear continuously - people who realized that their busy life was about everything and everyone else other than their own family and did something about it.  In all cases, family members either were working within the store or coming through to say hello during the workday. While there are the Petco's, Lowe's and Home Depots (let's not forget Walmarts!) in Maine, there are many wonderful family businesses as well, who like the Vellas, give their time and attention to their customers and make them feel like family.

Unfortunately, a quick look for more information on family businesses in Maine is eluding me, but I will continue to search for these numbers and get back to you!!
