Another great way to spend a cloudy day during your summer vacation in Maine is to visit Freeport, home of LL Bean!  Boasting more than 170 outlets, tourists and Mainers alike flock to this very rich in history town that  is located on the shores of beautiful Casco Bay. Don't just take my word for the shopping - Yankee Magazine selected Freeport as the Best Shopping Town in New England.  Not only will you find 4 different huge stores just for LL Bean, the shopping area also hosts shops such as Coach, Lindt Chocolate, Izod, Bass, Nike, Samsonite, Famous Footwear, Talbots, Van Heusen and Calvin Klein.  Did I mention Nordica?  There are also numerous small shops like the sign above, where you can find hoodies, tees and all kinds of unique gifts to take home with you.

One of the really great things we have noticed about many towns, including Freeport, is that there is TONS of free parking.  I know, truly a wonderful surprise.  You travel to go shopping for the day and there is  free parking. Nice!

Tired of the crowds?  You are just 2 miles from the water.  Get back into your car and drive to Wolfe's Neck State Park where you will find trails that wind along Casco Bay.   There are also 15 mile trails to hike just literally down the street from all the shopping.
