Most major cities in the country have walking tours, and Portland, ME is no exception!  Portland sits right on the coastline and is an active dock for fishermen, which also makes it a great place to have exceptional seafood!  When visiting Maine, you definitely want to make a stop to Portland.  Whether you are looking for great shopping, eating dinner on the docks, strolling by the sea, or have a huge desire for homemade ice cream, Portland is the place to go!

With the kids being here for a long weekend, we decided to treat them (and us!) to a Friday night in Portland.  Of course, the Wicked Walking Tours immediately grabbed their attention so off we went!  Tours in cities are notorious for having tons of historical information about the city, and Wicked Walking Tours was no exception.  Peppered with tall tales of hauntings, the tour was really interesting and filled with information of how Portland was leveled four times, the early days of Portland and why Portland has so many cobbled stoned roads.  Gordon, our fine tour guide, was engaging, extremely funny, friendly and obviously thoroughly enjoyed entertaining our group of almost 12 people.  Even when a straggler (who was that heckler???) whom had clearly been enjoying the night life in Portland in the local pubs a bit too long decided to join our group, Gordon handled it with finesse.

How popular is this tour?  From my understanding from the testimonial below, for quite some time:

"I've been taking this tour every year since 1697, and it just keeps getting better."
