Auburn, Maine, has a very rich history and much of it can be experienced just by looking at the architecture.  Below is our quaint little temporary home (I have no idea of how old it is) but just across the street are just a few of the town's very large houses.  Auburn doesn't appear to have any particular zoning, so, you have to get use to seeing huge mansions next door to tiny 2 bedroom houses.  At first we thought is quite odd, but in the 5 full weeks of being here, we've grown use to it and can't imagine it any other way.

Auburn resides in Androscoggin County, which was barely 10 years old when the Civil War ended in 1865.  Apparently the Maine State Fair came each year for many years, although that no longer is held in Auburn.  Auburn can tout, however, to be the first town to host Maine's first licensed radio station in 1922.  How bout that?!
